When your ex introduces a new partner
Shared by Curated by CoreParent
Your kids come home talking about your co-parent's new partner, and it stirs up everything: jealousy, worry about who's around your children, fear of being replaced.
What I tried
Grilling the kids for information, badmouthing the new person, or letting the anxiety leak out in front of the children.
What worked
What tends to work: separate your feelings from your kids' experience. It's fair to want basic info about a new adult in their lives, so ask your co-parent directly and calmly, not through the kids. Keep your reactions for your own support system. Kids can love more people without loving you less, and the steadier you stay, the safer they feel telling you about their whole life.
