Breaking the 'forgot the backpack' loop

Shared by Curated by CoreParent

Shoes, homework, the lovey, the inhaler: something always gets left at the other house, and every forgotten item becomes a new round of blame and back-and-forth trips.

What I tried

Blaming whoever packed last, making emergency trips across town, or letting the kid go without. All of that stresses everyone out.

What worked

What tends to work: duplicate the essentials so nothing has to travel. Keep a toothbrush, chargers, basic clothes, and a spare of any comfort item at BOTH homes. Keep a short standard packing list taped by the door. For the things that must travel (meds, homework), a single visible 'transition bag' the kid owns beats relying on either parent's memory.
