Splitting extracurriculars and medical bills fairly

Shared by Curated by CoreParent

Beyond base support, there's a constant stream of shared costs: soccer fees, braces, copays. Every one turns into a debate about who owes what.

What I tried

Fronting everything and hoping to be paid back, arguing over each receipt, or signing kids up for things without discussing the cost.

What worked

What tends to work: agree on the rules before the expenses hit. Decide what counts as shared, what the split is, and that big-ticket items get an okay first. Then make it mechanical: log each expense with a receipt, request the share in a system that timestamps it, and keep the running total out of your co-parenting messages. A predictable process turns money from a recurring fight into simple bookkeeping.
