Going low-contact with a high-conflict ex

Shared by Curated by CoreParent

Every open-ended conversation with your co-parent becomes a fight or a trap. You need to coordinate parenting without handing them a new opening every day.

What I tried

Trying to reason it out in long conversations, over-explaining, or going no-contact in a way that also drops necessary kid logistics.

What worked

What tends to work: shift to structured, business-like, written-only contact focused strictly on the kids. Think 'gray rock': calm, brief, unreactive, boring. Use a single channel that keeps a record. Answer logistics, skip the bait. You're not being cold to your child. You're refusing to feed a dynamic that hurts everyone. Keep the door open only as wide as the kids actually need.
