Documenting without escalating

Shared by Curated by CoreParent

You've been told to 'keep records,' but every time you write something down or bring it up, it feels like you're building a case and picking a fight at the same time.

What I tried

Confronting your co-parent with the 'evidence,' or keeping frantic notes everywhere that you can never actually find later.

What worked

What tends to work: document quietly and factually, and don't announce it. Keep short, dated, neutral entries (what happened, when, who was there) in one consistent place. No adjectives, no venting, no sending it to them. A calm contemporaneous record is powerful precisely because it's boring and consistent. Save the interpretation for your attorney.
