One of you has moved (or is about to), and the everyday rhythm of two nearby homes gives way to flights, long stretches apart, and staying present from far away.

Trying to keep the same schedule that only worked when you lived close, or over-relying on marathon video calls that little kids can't sustain.

What worked

What tends to work: trade frequency of days for depth of contact. Keep the video check-ins shorter and regular, built around an activity (reading the same book, a game, homework) rather than 'so how was your day.' Concentrate parenting time into school breaks and long weekends, and nail down travel logistics (who books, who pays, passports) in writing well ahead. Distance is hard, and predictability is what keeps the connection from fraying.
