Choosing your first custody schedule
Shared by Curated by CoreParent
You're staring at a blank calendar trying to pick a schedule (week-on/week-off, 2-2-3, every-other-weekend) with no idea which one your family can actually live.
What I tried
Picking whatever splits time most 'fairly' on paper, or copying a friend's arrangement, without accounting for the kids' ages, the commute between homes, and work realities.
What worked
What tends to work: start from the child, not the stopwatch. Younger kids usually do better with more frequent, shorter transitions (2-2-3); older kids often prefer fewer switches (week-on/week-off). Factor in how far apart the homes are and who can realistically do school mornings. Write it down, try it for a season, and treat it as a draft you can revise. The 'perfect' split matters less than a rhythm everyone can predict.
