When support comes late, or not at all
Shared by Curated by CoreParent
The support payment is late again, or short, and you're covering the gap while trying not to let the kids feel the stress of it.
What I tried
Confronting them angrily, threatening, or airing it in front of the kids. That rarely produces payment and usually produces more conflict.
What worked
What tends to work: take the emotion out and let the record do the work. Keep money out of your co-parenting messages entirely except for short, factual, dated notes ('Received $200 of $400 on the 5th'). Track every payment and shortfall in one place. Route the actual money through a system that timestamps it rather than cash. Then talk to a family-law attorney about enforcement options. A clean, boring paper trail is what makes those options work.
