The ache of the days without your kids

Shared by Curated by CoreParent

The house is too quiet on your off-days. The silence after a separation can feel less like free time and more like grief, and it can pull you into scrolling their photos or counting the hours.

What I tried

Filling every off-day with numbing distraction, or the opposite, sitting in the empty house replaying everything. Both leave you depleted for the days the kids ARE with you.

What worked

What tends to work: treat your parenting-time-off like something with a purpose, not a void to survive. Put one real thing on each off-day, like a workout, a friend, a project, or therapy. Rebuilding a life that's yours doesn't betray your kids. It's what lets you show up steady when they're back. The ache softens with routine and time. If it's tipping into something heavier, talk to someone. Reaching out is a sign of strength.
