Splitting a birthday across two homes
Shared by Curated by CoreParent
Your child's birthday falls on the 'wrong' week, or both homes want the 'real' party, and it's turning into a tug-of-war over a day that's supposed to be about the kid.
What I tried
Competing over who throws the bigger party, insisting on the exact day, or making the child choose. All of that puts the birthday stress on them.
What worked
What tends to work: let go of 'the day' and give the child TWO low-pressure celebrations, or one shared one if you can manage it civilly. Coordinate quietly so gifts and guest lists don't collide. Kids don't count whose party was bigger. They remember whether the day felt happy or tense. Aim for happy.
