Handling an IEP or 504 with a difficult co-parent

Your child needs extra support at school, and the IEP/504 process is hard enough without a co-parent who disengages, disagrees, or turns the meetings into a battleground.

Trying to handle it all solo (and getting blamed later), or letting meetings derail into parent conflict in front of the school team.

What worked

What tends to work: keep the child's needs at the center and the conflict outside the room. Make sure the school has both parents' contact info so nobody's out of the loop, come to meetings with written goals, and let the professionals lead. Even if you can't agree on much, you can usually agree your kid deserves the support, so anchor everything to that.
