Co-parenting a baby across two homes

Shared by Curated by CoreParent

Separating with an infant brings its own hard questions: overnights, feeding, and how a baby keeps a bond with each parent when they can't yet understand a schedule.

What I tried

Forcing an even 50/50 overnight split too early, or one parent being reduced to occasional visits that erode the bond.

What worked

What tends to work: for the youngest kids, frequent shorter contact usually beats long stretches away from either parent, with consistency and gentle, gradual overnights as they grow. Keep feeding, sleep, and comfort routines as similar as possible across homes so the baby's world stays predictable. Revisit the schedule as they develop, because what an infant needs isn't what a toddler needs. Pediatric and legal guidance both help here.
