Both parents at the game without the tension

Shared by Curated by CoreParent

The recital, the championship, the graduation: your kid wants both parents there, but the thought of being in the same room (or the other parent's new partner being there) makes it fraught.

What I tried

One parent skipping to avoid conflict, silent standoffs in the bleachers, or making the kid choose who gets to come.

What worked

What tends to work: both show up, sit apart if you need to, keep it brief and civil, and put the focus entirely on the kid. You don't have to sit together or chat. You just have to not make the day about the two of you. Years from now your child remembers scanning the crowd and seeing you both there. That's the whole assignment.
